Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Introduced in England during the eighteenth century, a partners desk was designed for two people to work facing each other simultaneously. These double-sided desks became standard furnishings in financial institutions, legal offices, and grand country house libraries.

Desks from this era were typically constructed with solid mahogany framing and flame mahogany veneers over oak or pine drawer casings. Writing tops were inlaid with hide leather, while pedestals were built as separate units to facilitate transport.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-planed drawer bottoms, and original brass or wood fittings with keyhole escutcheons. The desk top usually lifts completely off the two supporting pedestals without fixed modern fastenings.

Position the desk centrally in a room rather than against a wall to highlight its double-sided construction. Pair it with a classic leather desk chair, modern accent lighting, and neutral wall colours to balance the dark mahogany timber.

Keep the desk away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber warping and leather cracking. Apply natural beeswax sparingly to the wood surfaces along the grain, and clean the leather top using a slightly damp cloth followed by a specialised leather conditioner.
