A stunning set of six Regency period mahogany and caned dining chairs, c.1820. The chairs are after Gillows'' ''Edwards'' Library Pattern'' design (see S. Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster and London 1730 - 1840, London, 2008, vol. I, pp.216-218). Furniture maker''s mark of the letter ''H'' formed in dots to the underside of each top rail.Each chair is crisply carved and finely made with a carved tablet top rail above rope twist uprights flanking a pierced and carved roundel horizontal splat with a moulded front rail, caned seat and sabre legs.All chairs have historic restorations, some more than others. The restoration work is of high quality and the chairs have clearly been very well looked after and maintained. Two cane seats are later than the others. Each chair has a later bespoke-made buttoned cushion in a sage green.
