1937 silver “Everite” pocket watch from H Samuel.The watch has a Swiss 15-jewel stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed “Everite” H Samuel, Manchester… Everite was H Samuel’s brand name for watches sold in their own shops. It is all protected by an inner hinged cover which has a few short scratches and a little unevenness to the edge. In 1862 when Harriet Samuel took over her father-in-law''s clock-making business in Liverpool, she renamed the business H Samuel and moved the business to Manchester''s Market Street where she ran the company as a mail order business.Later on, Harriet’s son concentrated on the retail side of the business, and the first H Samuel retail store opened in Preston in 1890, closely followed by branches in Rochdale and throughout Lancashire. Since then, the company has become nationwide with branches in many British High Streets today.This particular watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both of the case backs for Birmingham 1937. The front and sides of the case are in good condition, the back has a few small indentations, not too detrimental for a 1930s piece.The acrylic lens is in good condition.The signed dial is in lovely condition.The watch comes in a new presentation box.NB: Where we have specified a year of manufacture, this is based on hallmarks or serial numbers with published databases.
