Good Quality Edwardian Inlaid Mahogany Occasional Table

1900 - 1920
For Sale by Andros Antiques
Description

This Good Quality Edwardian Inlaid Mahogany Occasional Table offers both practicality along with decorative appeal. Standing on tapered legs, that have generous Satinwood bandings to them, finishing with a refined shaped toe. The stretcher rails add strength, and meet a small lower shelf to the middle. The side rails are themselves inlaid with a decorative Satinwood banding.

The beautifully figured Mahogany top, with its edge moulding is also inlaid with a Satinwood banding. The dense Mahogany has a lovely deep warm tone, that contrasts so sharply with the Satinwood inlay. Being made of such good quality timber, the table is of a generous weight, aiding stability.

Would work well in either a traditional or contemporary interior décor and can be placed anywhere in a room as it is finished all round.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian occasional tables, dating from 1901 to 1910, are characterised by lighter, more delicate proportions than earlier Victorian pieces. They frequently incorporate Neoclassical elements, Sheraton influence, fine satinwood inlays, and elegant tapered legs.

Edwardian cabinetmakers predominantly used solid mahogany or mahogany veneers as the primary timber, accented with contrasting marquetry and crossbanding made from satinwood, boxwood, ebony, and rosewood.

Authentic Edwardian furniture displays precise joinery, fine timber graining, hand-applied marquetry, and original patina. Inspecting drawer linings, leg joinery, and the underside for historic wear helps confirm period construction.

An Edwardian occasional table serves as an ideal side table beside a sofa or armchair, or as a decorative surface in an entryway. Paired with modern lighting or contemporary ceramics, its rich mahogany tones provide textural contrast.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax paste once or twice a year following the grain. Avoid placement in direct sunlight or near radiator heat sources to prevent timber cracking and veneer lift.
