Description

A late Victorian walnut tunbridge ware writing slope of fine quality with working lock and key.

The box is crossbanded with tulipwood with geometric borders to the front and top. Both the top and escutcheon are inset with mother of pearl surrounded by further geometric inlay in diamond form.

The box opens to reveal a mustard leather writing surface with gilt stamped foliate decoration and a greek key border. The surface lifts at each end revealing storage beneath.

There is a small piece of tulipwood banding missing from the top front left edge (please see photographs). Otherwise the slope remains in a very good condition overall.
