Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

High Victorian black marble mantel clocks are distinguished by heavy stone construction, architectural silhouettes, and Classical Revival details. They often feature dark Belgian black marble or slate casing, hand-engraved gilt incised lines, and cast brass or bronze embellishments such as cherubs or classical masks.

These clocks were typically made using Belgian black marble (Noir Belge) or French slate, combined with brass mechanical movements. Decorative accents were achieved using ormolu, cast iron, marble inlay, or hand-engraved gilt detailing.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces feature substantial weight, cold-to-the-touch natural stone, hand-cut joinery, and brass clockwork stamped with maker marks or serial numbers. The incised decoration is hand-chiselled rather than modern machine-engraved.

Position the clock as a focal piece on a fireplace hearth shelf, sideboard top, or bookshelf. Pair it with minimalist brass candle holders or contemporary art to contrast the dark classical form.

Dust the casing regularly with a clean microfiber cloth and polish the marble using a specialised stone wax to prevent drying. The internal mechanical movement should be lubricated and serviced by a professional horologist every three to five years.
