Antique 19th Century large quality gilt overmantle wall mirror. Lovely charm and elegance.

This is a lovely, rare mirror. A bit different and quite special.

An impressive find, that would look amazing in the right location. No loose joints or woodworm.

The later replacement mirrored glass is in very good condition.

Overall maximum dimensions: 115cmH x 103cmW x 11cmD, could be hung in portrait or landscape. Mirrored glass 88cmH x 77cmW.

The frame is in good antique condition with minor historic knocks, marks, losses, wear, imperfections, repairs, alterations refinishing and touching up.

An overmantel mirror is a large decorative wall mirror designed specifically to sit directly above a fireplace mantelpiece, serving as a central focal point in 19th-century reception rooms.

These mirrors were constructed using timber frames layered with plaster or gesso, detailed with moulded ornamentation, and finished with hand-applied gold leaf over a coloured clay bole base.
