Canton export porcelain from the late Qing Dynasty is characterised by vivid overglaze Famille Rose enamels applied to porcelain white wares. These pieces feature distinct panel decorations portraying scenes of Chinese court life, alternating with panels of birds, flowers, and butterflies set against a gilded ground.

The plain white porcelain blanks were fired in the kilns of Jingdezhen before being transported to Guangzhou (Canton).
