George III Oak Lancaster Longcase Clock

A George III period oak longcase clock by Lancaster maker Joshua Harrocks in fully restored and working order c.1765. The oak case with moulded cornice to the top and turned columns either side of the glazed view window. Burr oak panel to the long slim trunk with shaped top to the door flanked by quarter columns; the base section with canted corners and moulded plinth and bracket feet. The brass dial with engraved chapter ring and cast spandrels to the corners, dummy winding holes along with the makers name Joshua Harrocks, Lancaster, dated 1765; dummy calendar to the centre of the dial. 30 hour movement with bell striking to the hour, fully restored and working. Joshua Harrocks was born in 1716 and was working in Lancaster from the 1740's until 1772, he was commissioned to make a new clock for Lancaster Priory in 1759 and is recorded as buying many of his clock cases from Gillows workshops. This example presented in superb condition with a rich colour and deep polish. Measures 80" high x 14.5" wide at the trunk x 24" wide at the cornice x 10" deep.
