Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The William IV period, spanning from 1830 to 1837, marks a transitional phase between Regency elegance and early Victorian substantiality. Furniture from this era often incorporates bold turnings, carved architectural details, and prominent flame or fiddleback mahogany veneers.

Chests from this period typically feature hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, solid mahogany framing, and high-figure mahogany veneers. Internal drawer linings were often crafted from pine or oak, fitted with cast brass handles and iron locks.

Authentic pieces feature period-correct joinery, original brass escutcheons or handles, hand-planed drawer bottoms, and turned feet characteristic of the 1830s. Secondary timber wear and natural wood shrinkage are additional indicators of age.

A dark mahogany chest serves as a grounding focal point when positioned against contemporary neutral walls. Layering the top surface with modern ceramics or artwork creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the patina. Position the piece away from direct sunlight and central heating radiators to prevent veneer movement or fading.
