Rare pair of Wedgwood fumigators, c. 1850. Made for ‘Piesse and Lubins, Fumigating Ribbon’. The globular blue jasper jars, sprigged with Classical scenes of a child, playing a pipe, with a dog, before a snake entwined, tripod burner, vases of flowers and Romanesque oil lamps. Twin mmaiden mask handles to the sides of each jar.
The inner rims, with a continuous band of laurel.
Both jars, with circular lids, applied with flower heads, and having a pierced single slot, to disperse the fragrance.
Impressed ‘WEDGWOOD’ mark, and applied circular tablet ‘Piesse and Lubins Fumigating Ribbon’, to the base of both jars.
Height – 10.5 cm,, 4 1/8”.
Diameter – 10.5 cm, 4 1/8”.
Condition – Excellent. No restoration.
Piesse and Lubin was a luxury perfumery company, established in 1855, with retail premises at 2, New Bond Street, London. They ceased trading in the 1950s.
