Edwardian inlaid mahogany furniture, produced between 1901 and 1910, is characterised by lighter proportions and refined classical revival motifs compared to heavier Victorian styles. Cabinetmakers frequently used delicate satinwood or boxwood stringing and crossbanding to accentuate the rich mahogany grain.

These tables were constructed using fine solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, often detailed with boxwood, ebony, or satinwood inlays. Hardware typically featured cast brass ring handles, and legs were fitted with brass castors for ease of movement.

Authentic Edwardian pieces feature hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, original brass castors, and precise inlay detailing. Look for natural patination on the timber and light wear on hand-turned brass handles, alongside square tapered legs characteristic of the period.

Position the writing table in a sunlit corner or study paired with a contemporary upholstered desk chair to create a balanced workspace. Complement the warm timber tones with minimalist brass table lamps, botanical prints, and modern stationery accessories.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a soft lint-free cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish twice a year along the wood grain. Keep the table away from direct sunlight and central heating radiators to prevent veneer lifting or wood shrinkage.
