Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A ladies writing table from the early 20th century typically features compact dimensions designed for personal correspondence. These pieces commonly incorporate a central leather writing surface, small flanking side drawers, and clean tapered legs characteristic of the late Victorian and Edwardian revivals.

Desks from this period were primarily crafted from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over secondary softwoods like pine or oak. Writing surfaces were lined with embossed or gilt-tooled leather, accompanied by solid brass drawer handles and escutcheons.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut or early machine dovetail drawer joints, natural timber grain variations, and original patinated brass hardware. Look for natural wear along the drawer runners and subtle age cracking or fading on the leather writing inset.

These compact desks function effectively as laptop workstations in modern home offices, hallway console tables, or bedroom vanity desks. Pairing dark mahogany with contemporary seating or minimalist decor creates a balanced contrast between traditional and modern aesthetics.

Apply a natural beeswax polish along the grain of the mahogany twice a year to preserve the wood finish. Clean the leather surface using a damp, soft cloth and treat it occasionally with a specialized leather conditioner to prevent drying or cracking.
