Bronze Japanese Koro in the Form of a Carp

19th century
Description

An outstanding Japanese bronze Koro with the cover modelled as Kinko reading from a scroll. A large and heavy bronze which is in the style of Artsuyoshi (1813-1891).

There is a small chip where the back of the cover meets the carp but not noticeable . There is also a firing crack on the right hand side of Kinko's robe. Again. this isn't an issue but one which we have to point out. Circa 1850.

Kinko lived beside a river and was a philosopher and painter of fish.

One day a giant carp offered to take him for a ride into the realm of the immortals. He returned after a month, telling his followers never to kill another fish. He then jumped into the river, where he was transformed into a carp himself.

Kinko is presented reading a Taoist scroll while riding on the back of the magical fish.

This beautiful bronze exudes peace and tranquility. It is heavy and substantial and weighs 4kg.

We can deliver free of charge in UK mainland and can calculate the cost for international delivery.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
