Edwardian Silver Mounted Scent Perfume Bottle Sheffield 1904

1900 - 1920
For Sale by Aramis Antiques
Description

An Edwardian silver mounted scent perfume bottle with clear hallmarks for Sheffield 1904 and makers mark for James Dixon & Sons. This is a good sized piece (but not too large) for its type. It has a bulbous silver lid chased with an acanthus leaf design. The lid is gilt lined a mark of quality. The silver collar is two tier, fitted around the inner glass neck. The silver hinge works smoothly and perfectly. There is a well fitting stopper, probably original. The cut lead crystal base has a star cut case. Around the base are four large diamond cut panels, with a central flat finally cut hobnail. The panels are partnered with four inverted triangles with small and dense diamond cutting. The shoulder is slice cut all round. A substantial and sparkly piece in excellent condition.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Produced during the early 20th century, these items typically featured heavy cut crystal or glass bodies paired with hallmarked sterling silver collars and tops, designed for display on dressing tables.

They were predominantly crafted from lead crystal or blown glass, accented with sterling silver, gold, or silver-gilt mounts and chased or embossed caps.

Look for official British silver hallmarks stamped into the collar or cap, which indicate the silver purity, assay office, year mark, and makers initials alongside period-appropriate glass cutting techniques.

Place the vessel on a bedroom dressing table, a vanity tray in a bathroom, or alongside books on a decorative shelf to add texture and historical context.

Wipe the glass body with a damp lint-free cloth and clean the silver fittings using a soft silver polishing cloth, taking care not to submerge the silver mounts in water.
