Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Hepplewhite style originated in late 18th-century England, named after cabinetmaker George Hepplewhite. It is defined by lightweight, graceful lines, shield-shaped backrests, and delicate neoclassical motifs such as wheat sheaves, urns, or water leaves.

Traditional Hepplewhite chairs are primarily constructed from solid mahogany or satinwood, joined with mortise and tenon timber joints. The drop-in or over-the-rail upholstered seats were traditionally filled with horsehair and supported by jute webbing.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-carved details, subtle irregularities in saw marks, and original timber patination. The backrests exhibit distinctive shield, heart, or wheel shapes with tapered square legs, often connected by H-stretchers.

These classical chairs pair well with simple contemporary dining tables made of timber or marble to create a balanced contrast. Re-upholstering the seat cushions in contemporary neutral fabrics or bold geometrics also modernises their traditional silhouette.

Mahogany frames should be dusted with a soft cloth and polished annually with natural beeswax to preserve the timber patina. Fabric upholstery should be vacuumed regularly with a gentle brush attachment and spot-cleaned using appropriate upholstery cleaners.
