Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Produced roughly between 1830 and 1837, William IV furniture bridges the transition from refined Regency classicism to heavier Victorian design. It is characterised by robust proportions, bold acanthus leaf carving, prominent scrollwork, flame mahogany veneers, and turned columns or bun feet.

Cabinets from this era were primarily constructed using solid mahogany or oak frameworks, often faced with decorative flame mahogany veneers. Secondary timbers such as pine or deal were used for drawer linings and rear backings, with brass key escutcheons or internal locks.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut joinery, rich patination from age, and flame mahogany veneer applied to solid drawer and door fronts. Look for carved pediments with organic scroll motifs, turned column uprights, and historical iron or brass lock mechanisms inside the doors.

A dark wood cabinet functions effectively as an entryway console or dining room server. Juxtaposing the rich timber tones against contemporary painted walls, modern table lamps, abstract artwork, or ceramic vessels creates a balanced, curated interior.

Dust surfaces regularly using a clean, soft microfibre cloth following the timber grain. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the wood, and keep the piece away from direct sunlight, radiators, or damp environments to prevent veneer lifting.
