Refined Antique Sterling Silver Partners Inkstand

Description

This is a very refined and elegant partners inkstand set in gilded sterling silver.

There is a channel on each side for a pen, a central ink pot and two pounce pots. The pounce pots have a cut glass body and gilded silver lids. All are in good condition considering their age please see photos for details.

There is a coat of arms engraved into the ink pot as well as into each pen channel, but it is too worn to identify. Each part of the ink stand has hallmarks, most of the hallmarks have the makers mark "Sw" for either Samuel Whitford II or Samuel Wheatley, the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard head for London assay office and the date letter "e" for 1820. However the two pounce pots are not identical and one of the pounce pots (the one that has more decoration to the silver lid) has a different hallmark including King George III's head, the lion passant for sterling silver and the date letter "u" for 1795. It is a mystery how an earlier replacement was found for this stand.
