I have for sale a French striking and repeating carriage clock made in France around 1870;s simply stunning brass chased mask housing the dial with Roman numerals striking on a bell.

The clock is in a fully engraved case and dials mask.

The Case

The case is in solid shiny brass fully engraved and stands 17cm high x 9cm wide with a depth of 8cm it is in perfect condition with mint thick 3mm beveled sides/front/ and top viewing glass.

The case is very shiny and hard to photograph they do not do the clock justice at all.

On the bottom of the case, it is engraved C.J. Feildent February 16th, 1860.

The Dial

The dial is in original condition in white porcelain with Roman numerals, the dial is set in a stunning gilded engraved mask which sets this clock apart from others, the clock has very fine original black moon hands.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A French repeating carriage clock is a compact portable timepiece developed in nineteenth-century France, featuring a carrying handle and a push-button mechanism that repeats the last hour or quarter struck on demand.

These clocks are typically constructed from cast and chased gilt brass or bronze, fitted with bevelled glass panels and a white enamel dial with blued steel hands.

Authentic period examples generally display maker trade stamps or serial numbers on the rear movement plate, hand-engraved casing details, fine platform escapements, and heavy solid brass construction.

Position the timepiece on a fireplace mantelpiece, writing desk, or bookshelf alongside contemporary ceramics and modern artwork to create a balanced, layered aesthetic.

Dust the case regularly using a soft, dry cloth without applying abrasive metal cleaners that strip gilded finishes, and have the internal movement serviced by a professional horologist every three to five years.
