Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Empire Revival style originated in the mid-to-late nineteenth century, drawing direct design inspiration from Napoleons First French Empire period. It is characterized by grand architectural proportions, rich mahogany veneers, classical columns, pediments, and gilded bronze or brass accents.

Nineteenth-century pier mirrors were typically crafted using solid timber bases clad in highly patterned flame mahogany veneers. The mirror plates were made of silvered glass, framed by turned columns often featuring cast or chassed gilded metal capitals.

Authentic period pieces exhibit signs of hand-craftsmanship, such as hand-cut dovetails on back framing, secondary woods like pine or oak behind the veneers, and gentle oxidisation or foxing on the original silvered mirror plate.

Place the mirror in a narrow hallway, between two tall windows, or above a low console table to maximize light refraction and establish vertical depth within the space.

Dust the timber frame using a dry, soft microfibre cloth and apply high-grade microcrystalline wax annually to protect the veneer. Clean the glass with a mild, ammonia-free solution applied directly to a cloth rather than sprayed onto the mirror frame.
