Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Safety stand rocking horses were developed in the late 19th century as an alternative to traditional bow rockers. Designed to glide back and forth on iron swing brackets within a fixed wooden frame, this mechanism prevented the horse from tipping over and protected childrens feet.

Rocking horses from this era were typically carved from seasoned pine or lime wood, joined with dowels and glue. They featured gesso coatings for smooth painting, real horsehair for the mane and tail, and genuine leather for the saddle and tack.

Authentic pieces generally display hand-carved muscle definition, glass eyes, painted dapple patterns, and iron swing iron attachments on a pine or beech frame. Age-appropriate wear on the paintwork, natural hair thinning, and patinated leather harness components also help establish authenticity.

An antique rocking horse serves as a focal sculpture in a hallway, bedroom, or nursery. Positioned in a quiet corner or alongside traditional timber furniture, it adds historical texture and visual narrative to contemporary schemes.

Keep the horse in a climate-controlled room away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood shrinkage and paint cracking. Leather elements require occasional light conditioning, while the timber stand should be dusted with a soft cloth and conditioned with natural beeswax.
