Sturmans Antiques has dated this piece to the 1920s.
Glazed with a soft red speckled flambe glaze allowing the colour of the decoration to show through. The base, rim and lid with embossed and engraved copper mounts with patinated silver finish to parts. The base signed in full by William Moorcroft along with Moorcroft factory impressions. The metalware mounts the work of Francis Arthur Edwardes who headed the Cripples Guild at Trentham at the request of the Duchess of Sutherland and produced mounts for Doulton and from 1925 for Moorcroft, Edwardes and William Moorcroft were close friends (ref BADA). Presented in immaculate condition with no damage or restoration. Measures 12" high including lid x 5.5 maximum diameter.
