Sturmans Antiques has dated this piece to the 1750s.
The brass dial with engraved chapter ring, crescent shaped calendar and circular inset panel bearing the makers name Joshua Harrocks, Lancaster. Matted dial centre and decorative cast spandrels to the corners; ringed dummy winding holes and original blued steel hands. The 30 hour movement with bell striking on the hour. Joshua Harrocks of Lancaster was known to be working in the city between 1746 and 1786, he is recorded as buying many of his clock cases from Gillows workshops, we believe that this example would have come from there. He had the honour of being commissioned to build a clock for the new turret at Lancaster Priory in 1759 and wound the clock for 10 years after that for a fee of £1 per annum (ref Clockmakers North Lancashire, Susan E Stuart). Small proportion and presented in superb original condition with a wonderful colour and original patina, fully serviced and working. Measures 79" high x 22" wide at the cornice x 13.5" trunk width x 9" deep at the foot. A video of the clock striking is available at https://youtube.com/shorts/wwTav3MmVSc
