Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian sterling silver photo frames were produced during the reign of Queen Victoria (18371901) to display personal portrait photographs. They feature silver fronts mounted onto wood or velvet easel backs, often crafted in symbolic shapes like hearts, ovals, or elaborate foliage patterns.

These frames typically feature a stamped or cast sterling silver front panel attached to a structural backing made of mahogany, oak, or fabric-covered board. Glass covers protect the photograph, while brass or silver pins secure the assembly.

Authentic British pieces feature official assay hallmarks, including a lion passant for sterling silver, a town mark such as the leopards head for London, a date letter, and a makers mark like WC for silversmith William Comyns.

Antique silver frames can be grouped on console tables, bedside stands, or mantelpieces alongside contemporary ceramics or glass to create balanced visual texture. Mixing silver with darker wood surfaces highlights the metallic lustre.

Clean the silver using a soft microfibre cloth and specialized silver polish, taking care to avoid getting liquid cleaners on the velvet or wooden backing. Store in low-humidity environments to minimize oxidation and tarnish buildup.
