Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Mid-Victorian open bookcases typically feature substantial proportions, classical moulding details, and exposed shelving designed for private libraries. Popular during the mid-19th century, larger examples often comprised two detachable sections to facilitate transport and installation.

Victorian cabinetmakers frequently employed dense hardwoods such as Spanish mahogany, rosewood, or oak for external veneers and frames. Internal backings and shelf substrates often utilised secondary softwoods like pine.

Authentic 19th-century bookcases exhibit hand-cut joinery, hand-planed pine backboards, and natural oxidisation to the timber. Original brass shelf-support fittings and moulded corbel details provide further evidence of period construction.

A mid-19th-century bookcase creates a focal point in contemporary living rooms, studies, or hallways when styled with curated literature, ceramics, and framed artwork. Balancing dense book arrangements with open space highlights the natural timber grain.

Maintain mahogany furniture by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and applying high-grade beeswax sparingly along the grain once or twice a year. Position the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage.
