Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A bureau is a writing desk featuring a sloped, hinged flap that opens down to provide a flat writing surface, concealing small drawers and pigeonholes inside. Positioned above a chest of drawers, this form became prominent in England during the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries.

These bureaux typically feature burr walnut veneers laid over an oak or pine carcass, often framed with featherbanding or crossbanding details. The metalwork usually consists of cast brass handles and keyhole escutcheons.

Authentic period examples often exhibit hand-dovetailed drawer joints, oak or pine drawer linings with runner wear, and natural timber shrinkage over time. Original brassware usually shows signs of hand-casting and gentle surface oxidisation.

An antique bureau functions as a focal piece in a home office, study, or living room alcove, providing a compact workspace and storage. Pairing the warm timber tones with modern lighting or contemporary artwork creates a balanced interior scheme.

Preserve burr walnut by keeping the piece away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent wood movement or veneer lifting. Regular dusting with a soft cloth and occasional applications of natural beeswax maintain the timber patina.
