Description

A splendid pair of Victorian silver dwarf candlesticks with clear hallmarks on the candlestick bases and sconces for London 1875 (including Victoria head) and makers mark for Richard Hodd & Son. The candlesticks are cast as classical urns, each decorated with four classical figures holding a wreath and a palm branch (symbols of victory and peace), above a garland. The urns stand on a tiered base with acanthus leaf decoration, beaded edges and a square base with beading and symmetrical foliage at each corner. A handsome pair of candlesticks, in very good condition, with a good early date.
