Antique Stag Horn Handle Walking Stick / Cane With Silver Engraved Collar - Initialled C.E.W. And Dated 1888.

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Mark Seabrook Antiques

One of the best walking sticks / canes I have bought...it has everything a collector wants....first it is made from the finest malacca which comes from the species of palm known as rattan, a native off the coast of Sumatra....thought to be the best for walking sticks / canes as it is lightweight, strong and with a satin-like bark which has a natural gloss.....the handle is made of finest grade deer antler ...it has a silver collar engraved with hounds chasing a hare and with the owners initials C.E.W. and dated 1888....there is a brass stud on the handle for pushing open gates.....and to top it all off the handle has the badge of the maker W. Shammon ....hallmarks are for Birmingham 1880-88.
