Around 35 years ago Sue and Steve Timms set up S & S Timms Antiques in a small shop on Dunstable Street, Ampthill. Antiques had always been in the blood for Steve , growing up with both his Grandfather and Father in the trade. (The latter actually had a shop on Sydney Street in London during the early part of the 20th Century and was a founder member of the BADA) When Steve met Sue it didn’t take long for her to fall in love with both him and also the business, and together they set up shop from scratch. For many years they dealt almost exclusively with the trade, but gradually as the world began to change in the late 80's and early 90's they began to take their first steps into the world of retailing to the general public from both their shop and also a few antiques fairs.
Naturally the business continued to evolve and 1998 was a significant time in the business, as Sue & Steve’s son Robbie left school and joined the family business as an apprentice, becoming the fourth generation of his family in a row to be involved in the antiques trade.
It was May 2007 when Sue, Steve and Robbie made, what at the time, felt like a difficult decision to close down their retail showrooms, thus allowing them all more time to concentrate on dealing from fairs, antique centres and on building further their new extensive website.
Relatively suddenly and very sadly in early 2009, the heartbeat of S & S Timms, Sue lost her short but brutal battle with cancer and passed away peacefully. At this time Robbie, who'd been largely behind the scenes & playing a low key role in the business until then, alongside his father, resolved not just to continue the good work, but to grow the business and ensure S & S Timms Antiques remained a business of which Sue would have been proud for many years to come.
As you can imagine having been established in the antiques trade for well over 35 years S & S Timms have an incredibly vast wealth of knowledge and experience which we are always more than happy to share and pass on to others where possible. We all have to start somewhere.
Our extensive and attractive stock is available to view by appointment only at our warehouse facility, in full on our website or at the Edenbridge Galleries, in Kent. The Edenbridge Galleries, is an extremely high quality collective of respected dealers from various disciplines which is owned and managed by Antiques Roadshow furniture expert Lennox Cato.
We also attend somewhere in the region of 12 - 15 high quality Antiques Fairs each year ranging from smaller provincial events to grand central London events at which we attempt to showcase as much of our stock as possible.
