How do I care for antique oak?

Keep wooden storage chests away from direct heat sources and drastic humidity changes to prevent the timber from splitting. Regular dusting and occasional application of traditional wax help maintain the finish. Avoid modern silicone polishes, which can build up and degrade the natural surface over time.

Where were these chests made?

These pieces originate from various regions across Wales, including rural farmhouses in Snowdonia and coastal districts like the Gower Peninsula. Local carpenters utilised regionally available timber and vernacular design traditions. Such local variations give each piece a distinct character tied to its specific geographical origins.

How are mule chests used today?

Mule chests function well as blanket boxes at the foot of a bed or as coffee tables in a living room. The lower drawers provide convenient hidden storage for smaller items. Their sturdy construction allows them to serve daily practical purposes while displaying centuries of woodworking history.
