Are these beds easy to assemble?

Most antique wooden bed frames utilise traditional bolt-together or drop-in side rail systems. These allow the headboard, footboard, and rails to separate for straightforward transport and assembly. Buyers should check whether modern standard mattresses will fit the historical dimensions, as older European and British sizes occasionally vary slightly from contemporary measurements.

How do I care for antique timber?

Maintain the wood by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and avoiding placement near direct heat sources or strong sunlight. Periodic application of appropriate wax polish helps preserve the moisture and sheen of the original finish. Avoid silicone-based sprays, as they can penetrate the wood pores and damage historic polishes over time.

Can I use a modern mattress?

Many historical bed frames accommodate modern mattresses, though interior dimensions should be verified before purchase. Some configurations may require custom slat bases or low-profile foundations to achieve the correct support. Consulting the specific internal dimensions listed for each bed ensures a proper fit for standard mattress sizes.

How do I identify Art Deco styles?

Art Deco bed frames typically feature streamlined silhouettes, symmetrical geometric inlays, and highly polished veneers like burr walnut. These pieces dispense with heavy Victorian carving in favour of clean, simplified architectural lines. Manufactured predominantly during the 1920s and 1930s, they reflect the modernist shift towards functional elegance in domestic interiors.
