How do I hang a framed illustration?

Hang these works away from direct sunlight to protect delicate watercolours and tinted papers from fading. Secure them to the wall using fixings appropriate for the weight of the wood frame and glass.

What periods do these illustrations cover?

The selections span from the eighteenth century through the Regency and Victorian eras into Edwardian, Art Deco and mid-century modern decades. Dates are determined by the creation period of the specific artwork or print.

Are these works original or prints?

The inventory includes both unique hand-painted watercolours and drawings alongside period printed works such as lithographs and engravings. Descriptions specify whether a piece is an original drawing or a historical print.

What framing materials are used?

Pieces are commonly housed in wooden frames, sometimes featuring gilt wood, gold leaf or rosewood constructions. Glass fronts protect the paper surfaces of the drawings, paintings and prints from dust and handling.
