What is a tapestry fabric chair?

A tapestry fabric chair is a seating item upholstered in woven textile or needlework, combined with a wooden frame from various historic periods. These pieces range from formal desk chairs to comfortable fireside armchairs.

How do I identify the period?

Period identification relies on examining the timber species, frame silhouette, and structural details characteristic of eras like the Victorian or Georgian years. Upholstery style and textile type also provide clues to the manufacturing date.

Where should I place one?

These chairs suit studies, living rooms, and bedrooms where their historic textiles and wooden frames add character. Wingback versions work well beside fireplaces, while side chairs fit neatly against walls or desks.

How are different wood types used?

Woods like mahogany and walnut form the structural and visible parts of the chair frames, offering strength and rich colour. Some pieces utilise birds eye maple for a highly figured, decorative surface appearance.
