What is a small wooden table with drawers used for?

These pieces serve multiple domestic functions depending on their original form. Side tables and occasional tables provide surface space and drawer storage in hallways or living rooms. Writing tables and desks offer a dedicated surface for correspondence, while bedside tables and nightstands keep nighttime items enclosed near a bed.

How do I identify a Georgian piece?

Georgian pieces generally exhibit proportions and timber selections characteristic of the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Mahogany and oak dominate this period, often featuring simple lines and functional drawer arrangements. Construction details and hardware styles help distinguish these earlier examples from later revival or Victorian interpretations.

Are these tables suitable for modern homes?

Their compact dimensions allow these tables to fit easily into smaller rooms or narrow spaces. The drawers provide concealed storage for everyday clutter while maintaining a traditional aesthetic. They function effectively as bedside stands, hallway drop zones, or compact desks in contemporary interiors.

What woods are most common?

Mahogany and walnut appear frequently, particularly in formal or refined pieces from the Georgian and Victorian eras. These hardwoods offered durability and a fine grain suitable for polishing. Oak, pine, and fruitwood are also common, often found in kitchen tables, work tables, and country furniture.
