What is small library shelving?

Small library shelving refers to compact bookcases, etageres and open shelving units designed for domestic room book storage. These pieces offer accessible shelf space without dominating a room's floor plan.

How do I date a bookcase?

Dating relies on timber choices, construction methods, and stylistic cues such as Regency curves or Edwardian carved edges. Hardware like brass castors also provides strong chronological indicators.

Where should I place an etagere?

An etagere suits corners or living spaces where light can reach its multiple open display tiers. They accommodate smaller octavos alongside decorative items.

Are shelves usually adjustable?
