A silver leaf caddy spoon is a small serving implement fashioned in the likeness of a botanical leaf, used historically to scoop loose tea leaves. These pieces combine practical utility with decorative miniature metalwork, reflecting the styles of periods ranging from the Georgian era to the mid-twentieth century.

How were tea caddy spoons used?

Tea caddy spoons were kept alongside tea caddies to measure precise amounts of dry leaves into the pot. Their short handles allowed them to sit conveniently inside or beside the storage container. As tea grew in social importance during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, these spoons developed into decorative table items reflecting contemporary design tastes.

How should I care for silver caddy spoons?

These spoons require gentle cleaning with specialised silver polish and a soft cloth to preserve the engraved details and hallmarks. Regular handling often maintains a natural lustre without abrasive intervention. Store them away from damp environments to prevent tarnishing of the sterling silver surface.
