What is a cricket table?

A cricket table is a traditional three-legged occasional table with a circular top. The three-legged design ensured the table remained stable on uneven stone floors in old cottages. These pieces were used for various household tasks, from holding candles to serving meals, and remain popular for their compact footprint.

Where should I place an occasional table?

These compact tables fit easily beside seating, in hallways, or as bedside lamp stands. Their modest scale allows them to fill awkward corners without crowding a room. Pairing a primitive wooden table with contemporary seating creates a balanced contrast in a modern interior.

Are painted finishes original on these tables?

Many provincial and country tables received coats of paint during their long histories for protection or redecoration. Swedish, French, and English pieces frequently display old painted surfaces. Evaluating the patina and wear helps determine whether a painted finish dates from the period of manufacture or a later time.
