How do I clean silver plated barware?

Wash silver plated items gently in warm soapy water using a soft cloth, avoiding abrasive pads that can damage the plated surface. Dry thoroughly with a soft towel to prevent water spots. For tarnish, apply a specialised silver polish sparingly and buff softly. Ensure pieces like corkscrews or mechanical parts are kept completely dry.

Can I use vintage cocktail shakers for mixing drinks?

Many vintage cocktail shakers remain fully functional and can be used for preparing drinks. Check that the interior metal surface is clean and free from heavy wear before use. Ensure fitted lids and caps seal properly to avoid leaks during shaking. Hand washing is essential to preserve the vintage finish.

How do I identify the period of a piece?

Maker marks and stamps on the base often provide further chronological clues. Comparing construction methods and design motifs helps place an item within its decade of manufacture.
