How do I hang a heavy pair of antique wall sconces?

Secure the fixtures directly into wall studs or utilise appropriate heavy-duty wall anchors designed for the specific weight of bronze or giltwood. Ensure the mounting brackets match the hanging points on the backplate to prevent any tilting or structural strain.

Can I convert these candle sconces for electricity?

Many buyers choose to wire these fixtures for modern electric illumination while retaining the original candle drip pans for aesthetic authenticity. A qualified electrician can thread wiring through the existing arms without compromising the antique metal or wood structure.

How do I clean antique brass and gilt surfaces?

Dust the fixtures regularly with a soft, dry cloth to prevent grime accumulation on intricate cast details and carved wooden elements. Avoid commercial metal polishes that strip thin gilt or ormolu layers, sticking instead to gentle surface cleaning.

Where should I place wall sconces in a room?

Position the fixtures at eye level flanking a mirror, fireplace or architectural feature to create balanced illumination and visual symmetry. Spacing them evenly across a wall enhances the decorative impact of matching pairs in dining rooms or hallways.
