What is a pair of wood lamps?

These items comprise dual matching lighting fixtures or wooden stands designed to hold lamps, created in various historic styles from the Georgian period onward. They provide balanced illumination and symmetrical placement for interior spaces.

How were wooden lamp stands used?

Historic stands were originally built to hold candles or oil lamps before later conversion to electricity. They functioned as decorative torchieres or practical reading lights in parlours and bedrooms.

How do I identify Victorian pieces?

Victorian examples often display heavier timber turnings, dark polished finishes, and applied giltwood ornamentation. Construction frequently incorporates dense mahogany or pine with traditional nineteenth-century joinery.

Can converted tables hold lamps?

Small side tables, wine tables, and bedside cabinets frequently serve as lamp tables due to their convenient height and surface area. These pieces retain their original table functions while accommodating modern lighting fixtures.
