How do I style a wall console?

Mount the console securely to a stud wall at standard table height beneath a matching mirror or artwork. Keep the surface arrangement balanced with a central decorative object and flanking candlesticks. Ensure the weight of any heavy marble top rests properly on the wall brackets or supporting legs rather than relying solely on the wall fixings.

What is a pier table?

A pier table is a specific type of console designed to stand against the wall space between two windows. They usually sit directly beneath a tall wall mirror. These tables often feature ornate carving on the front apron while the back remains plain or unpolished where it faces the wall.

How do I clean giltwood?

Dust giltwood surfaces gently with a dry, soft feather duster or a clean microfiber cloth. Avoid applying moisture, cleaning sprays, or pressure to the delicate gold leaf layers. Water and chemical solvents lift the underlying gesso and ruin the historic gilding very quickly.

Are marble tops original?

Examine the underside of the stone and the top edge of the wooden frame to determine originality. Period marble slabs often show matching edge profiles, subtle staining, and specific seating marks that align with the timber base. Replacements usually sit too cleanly or lack the minor edge wear accumulated over centuries of use.
