How do the stacking tiers separate?

Each tier lifts straight up once the side locking mechanisms are disengaged. The modular sections rest on one another without permanent fixings. This design allowed offices and homes to reconfigure or expand their shelving units easily.

Are the glass doors original?

Many surviving bookcases retain their original leaded or plain glass panes set into wooden frames. Close inspection of the glass thickness and frame joints helps determine if panels were replaced. Original glass often shows subtle surface irregularities characteristic of early manufacturing.

Can I add more tiers later?

Matching additional tiers requires finding the exact manufacturer and depth size to ensure proper alignment. Different makers used proprietary stacking dimensions that do not interchange. Checking the maker stamp inside the rebate helps identify the correct series for expansion.

How do I care for the mahogany finish?

Apply a traditional beeswax polish sparingly to nourish the wood and maintain a soft sheen. Avoid placing the bookcase in direct sunlight or near heat sources to prevent the timber from drying. Dust the glass panels regularly with a soft dry cloth.
