How do I hang a large oil painting?

Large canvases require secure wall anchors fixed directly into structural studs due to their substantial weight. Professional picture hangers or heavy-duty mirror plates distribute the load safely. Ensure the piece hangs away from direct sunlight and heat sources to protect both the oil pigments and the wooden canvas stretcher over time.

What periods do these paintings cover?

The works span from the eighteenth century through the Victorian and Edwardian eras up to mid-century impressionism. Pieces frequently reflect Georgian portraiture or nineteenth-century continental and British schools. Specific dates or estimated eras are typically indicated by the style of the brushwork, the subject matter and the accompanying frame.

Are these paintings original works?

Canvas textures, pigment layering and stretcher construction help distinguish original period paintings from later decorative prints.

How do I care for an antique oil painting?

Dust the canvas gently with a soft, dry brush or feather duster to prevent particulate accumulation. Avoid using water, chemical cleaners or commercial solvents on the painted surface. Maintain a stable room temperature and moderate humidity to prevent the canvas from slackening and the wooden frame from warping.
