What rooms suit a credenza?

These cabinets suit dining rooms, grand hallways, or living spaces where low storage and a decorative surface are required. The substantial marble top provides a strong horizontal plane for displaying lamps or decorative objects without obstructing wall art.

How do I care for the marble top?

Wipe the stone surface regularly with a damp cloth and mild soap, avoiding acidic cleaners that etch polished marble. Using felt pads under heavy objects protects both the stone and the polished timber beneath it from accidental scratching.

Are the keys usually original?

Many surviving cabinets retain working locks and period keys, though replacement mechanisms and cut keys are common. Locks on these pieces were typically brass-fitted and operated interior door bolts for secure storage.

How do I distinguish Louis styles?

Louis XV revival pieces feature curved serpentine lines, asymmetrical ormolu mounts, and cabriole legs. Louis XVI style cabinets display straighter architectural lines, fluted pilasters, and symmetrical neoclassical ornamentation.
