Can I use an antique copper tub for planting?

These robust vessels serve exceptionally well as planters both indoors and out, provided proper drainage is managed. The natural copper and verdigris finishes complement garden greenery while offering deep containment for root systems.

How do I clean a heavy copper tub?

Maintenance depends entirely on whether you prefer a bright polished shine or wish to preserve the historic dark patina. Most collectors choose to leave the accumulated surface character untouched, using only a soft dry cloth for dust removal.

What period do most of these tubs come from?

The vast majority originate from the nineteenth century, spanning Georgian through Victorian eras in Britain and France. These pieces reflect the height of utilitarian metalworking before mass-produced aluminium and steel replaced heavy copper.

Are the handles original to the vessels?

Wrought iron and cast iron swing handles were integral to the original manufacture of cauldrons, boilers, and log bins. Examine the mounting brackets closely to ensure the fixings match the age and wear patterns of the main body.
