How do I spot Edwardian pieces?

Edwardian items often feature lighter proportions, satinwood inlay, and bright polished mahogany surfaces compared to heavier Victorian examples. Hardware tends to be neat and brass fixtures reflect revival tastes drawing on Georgian designs.

A bow front is a rounded, convex cabinet shape that curves outward from the edges toward the centre. This construction provides extra interior capacity while softening the silhouette of a tall chest or low commode.

Where were tallboys used?

Tallboys were designed for bedrooms to store folded clothing and linens where floor space was restricted. Their vertical arrangement maximised storage capacity without requiring a wider footprint.

How do I care for mahogany?

Keep mahogany furniture away from direct sunlight and sudden temperature changes to protect the polish and prevent timber movement. Dust regularly with a dry cloth and apply occasional wax polish to maintain the sheen.
