How do I wear an antique bangle daily?

Secure the safety chain if the bangle includes one, as this prevents accidental loss if the main clasp fails during movement. Avoid wearing these delicate gold pieces while swimming, gardening, or lifting heavy objects to protect the hinges and engraved surfaces.

What gold carats were used then?

Makers frequently employed 9ct and 15ct gold alloys, which offered a warmer tone, particularly in rose gold variations. Platinum also emerged during the later Edwardian years for mounting diamonds securely without tarnishing.

How do I tell Edwardian from Victorian?

Edwardian pieces often feature lighter platinum settings, delicate openwork filigree, and brighter diamond clusters. Victorian bangles tend to be heavier, relying on broader gold surfaces, rich chasing, and sentimental stones like garnets or seed pearls.

Are safety chains original?

Many period bangles incorporate fine safety chains attached near the clasp to catch the piece if the hinge opens unexpectedly. Original chains match the gold carat and wear patterns of the main hoop, though replacements are common on surviving items.
