How do I choose the right size desk?

Consider the dimensions of your room and the amount of surface area required for your daily tasks. Pedestal desks offer substantial drawer storage but demand more floor space than a simple writing table. Measure doorways and stairwells carefully before purchasing larger pieces like partners desks or cylinder desks, as their solid wooden construction makes them heavy to manoeuvre.

What is a partners desk?

A partners desk is a large, double-sided workspace designed for two people to use simultaneously from opposite sides. They feature matching drawers and cupboards on both faces. These substantial desks were traditionally used in offices and libraries where colleagues needed shared access to central files and writing materials.

How do I care for a leather writing surface?

Keep the leather clean by dusting it gently with a dry, soft cloth. Avoid using harsh chemical cleaners or excessive water, which can damage the surface and the surrounding wood. Applying a specialised leather balm or wax occasionally helps to maintain the suppleness and prevent cracking on older inserts.

Can I use a antique desk for a modern computer setup?

Many antique desks accommodate laptops and modern writing equipment comfortably on their spacious timber tops. However, older drawers may lack the depth or cable management holes required for bulky modern desktop hardware. Check the internal drawer dimensions and kneehole clearance if you plan to use a modern office chair with adjustable height mechanisms.
