Where should I place a runner?

Runners suit narrow hallways, corridors, and kitchens where length matters more than width. They protect wooden flooring while adding visual warmth to transitional spaces. Ensure you measure the clearance for doors to swing freely over the pile thickness before positioning the textile.

How do I clean an old rug?

Gentle surface vacuuming without a beater bar removes loose dirt from the wool fibres. Professional textile cleaners who specialise in antique carpets handle deep washing. Avoid chemical detergents and harsh scrubbing, as these methods damage natural dyes and historic wool foundations.

Are these runners durable?

Hand-spun wool and cotton construction provides natural resilience against regular foot traffic. Proper underlays prevent sliding and reduce friction wear on the foundation. Rotate the piece periodically to distribute wear evenly across high-traffic sections of the runner.

How do I identify regional styles?

Caucasian and Persian pieces display distinct geometric motifs, tribal symbols, and colour palettes. Examining the knotting style and edge finish helps pinpoint the origin. Reference guides and dealer expertise assist in distinguishing between Anatolian, Kurdish, and Caucasian village weaving characteristics.
