How do I mount a wall shelf?

Check the back fixing points and brackets to ensure the timber supports proper wall screws. Secure the piece directly into wall studs for safe weight distribution. Distribute books and ornaments evenly across the tiers to maintain stability. Avoid overloading fragile hanging racks with heavy volumes.

Where should I place an open bookcase?

Position freestanding bookcases against interior walls away from direct sunlight to protect the mahogany or oak timber. Ensure adequate clearance for easy access to lower shelves. Pair slim bookcases beside fireplaces or in alcoves where floor space is restricted. They offer accessible storage without overwhelming smaller rooms.

How do I care for Edwardian timber?

Dust shelves regularly with a dry lint-free cloth to prevent particle accumulation on polished surfaces. Apply occasional natural wax to nourish the grain without leaving heavy residue. Keep wooden furniture away from direct heat sources and sudden humidity shifts to prevent timber splitting. Maintain stable room temperatures to preserve the finish.

Are these shelves suitable for books?

Most open bookcases feature sturdy timber construction designed specifically to hold standard volumes. Check shelf thickness and support brackets if storing heavy encyclopaedias. Adjustable shelf mechanisms allow custom spacing for various book heights. This flexibility accommodates mixed collections of novels and art publications.
